It's a sweet story that, apparently, as of September 14, started to come to an end. With a half-hearted "wassup chat" and a title that read "Message from Dad…Mighty Mike Plays is Over," it was clear the video lacked the same enthusiasm present in previous uploads. The channel's nine-year-old owner quickly signaled that the page would soon be shut down before handing the mic over to his dad, Dave, for an explanation.
"Apparently, my son has been running some high-budget campaigns that I was pretty much unaware of," Dave said. "Looking at all the comments and stuff, I realize that a lot of people were actually telling him 'Your parents will find out about this,' but I hadn't been really monitoring the comments like that. He's nine – he's pretty tech-savvy – so I just thought he was having fun, playing video games, uploading them to YouTube."
Dave, who says he works in marketing, said he was recently called into speak with his employer and explain why there was a $118,000 hole in his company card. The reported transaction history painted a clear picture: Mighty Mike Plays had paid for ads – and a lot of them.
