Silksong Fans Are Starting To Worry About Sea Of Sorrow After Latest Nintendo Direct

It's been a while since I've been able to write about Hollow Knight: Silksong cope and fears, but here we are once again. While the main game has been out for just over a year now, developer Team Cherry announced in December last year that the first official DLC — titled Sea of Sorrow — is set to release at some point in 2026.

We didn't get a release window or date, just the promise that Team Cherry would talk about the DLC closer to release. It's now been almost nine months since that announcement, and we've had several Nintendo Directs and PlayStation State of Plays, along with Summer Game Fest and Gamescom, yet the DLC is still nowhere to be seen.

However, it's Nintendo's latest Direct that appears to have broken quite a few Silksong fans, with fears starting to rise that Sea of Sorrow may not hit its intended 2026 release window after all. We know that Team Cherry takes a long time to make things, and the continued no-shows with no communication has fans pretty scared about a potential delay.

"This is the first time I'm actually starting to believe it isn't releasing this year," says one fan called Viewless25 on the Silksong subreddit. "I think it's time to start packing it up," reads another comment by a fan called TAGOMXM. "DLC so good they're making it a new game, see you in 25 years," says PinoLoSpazzino, referencing how Silksong was actually DLC itself before it expanded in scope.

If I may huff some of that Silksong copium, I still do believe it's coming in 2026. Not only was Silksong's release date revealed by Team Cherry itself, but the announcement of Sea of Sorrow was also off Team Cherry's own back too. They know they don't need showcases to generate hype, and I'd put good money on Sea of Sorrow's release date being dropped two weeks before release by Team Cherry itself.

We're also still a month away from the game's physical release, which did reference the DLC and how it would be available to download for free for people who buy it. It might be the silksanity kicking in, but I do believe it'll meet its 2026 release window.
