Weekly Shonen Jump is, by far, the best-known and most popular manga magazine of all time. This magazine is as big as it is today thanks to its wide array of legendary series that have cemented their names in the hall of fame of Japanese manga. This magazine has many legendary manga series, such as One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Dragon Ball, and My Hero Academia, just to name a few that have become wildly popular with very successful anime adaptations.
This year’s October will be big for the series featured in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump, as we will see the return of two of its most popular manga with new anime adaptations. Dragon Ball finally returns with its Beerus anime, which is a remastered version of early Dragon Ball Super arcs. Meanwhile, Black Clover also makes a comeback with its Season 2 after a 5 year hiatus. We’re excited to see the true potential of these two series, and they'll surely help the manga hit new milestones as well.
Weekly Shonen Jump is a Japanese magazine specialized in series targeted towards young boys. Under the wing of Shueisha, the magazine has found great success, becoming the best all around Japan, and even over the globe. Its biggest stepping stone in that direction was the debut of Dragon Ball on November 20, 1984. Dragon Ball, by Akira Toriyama, would go on to become the Father of Shonen, and globally, it became the face of anime. Dragon Ball follows the story of Goku, and it became an unstoppable force in the industry. Even decades after its debut, it’s still massive, and that’s why we were all excited to see it coming back in October 2026 with new anime content. It was announced by Toei Animation on January 25, 2026, during Dragon Ball's 40th Anniversary celebrations, that its new project would be officially released on October 11, 2026. This project is set to remaster the previously underwhelming adaptation of early Dragon Ball Super arcs, hence the name, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus.
That said, Dragon Ball won’t be alone in this October comeback. Although nowhere near as big or iconic as Dragon Ball, Black Clover is returning in style just before it, on October 3, 2026. Black Clover has been on hiatus since 2021, and its second season is here to continue the story of the manga by Yuki Tabata after a long wait.
Both Dragon Ball and Black Clover have faced their fair share of hurdles over the last couple of years. For Dragon Ball, the series took a massive hit when its creator, Akira Toriyama, unfortunately passed away on March 1, 2024, at the age of 68. This death shook the Dragon Ball fandom to its core, and it went on to cause the series quite a few issues. Because of rights issues, the Dragon Ball Super manga went on hiatus on March 20, 2024, just a few weeks after Toriyama’s death. Since then, it hasn’t yet returned.
Anime-wise, we had Dragon Ball Daima in 2024, but nothing has been announced since then. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be our first new content in a while. Technically, any future Dragon Ball content will not be based on work by Toriyama, but Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is an exception, as it remasters old fan-favorite arcs. From The God of Destruction Beerus arc all the way up to The Universe 6 Tournament Arc, we will see fresh new animation, better pacing, and a better arc in general. The Dragon Ball series definitely needs a refresher, and this new anime will be perfect for that.
Meanwhile, Black Clover, as previously mentioned, struggled with a long anime hiatus. After the release of episode 170, the anime took a break starting March 30, 2021. It’s now returning after 5 years, and it’s looking better than ever before. Black Clover Season 2 greatly upgrades the anime, and it features better animation, no filler, improved pacing, and greater production in general. For these reasons, our expectations are high. With 24 episodes, we will finally see the story progress after a long wait.
