Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza's Return enjoyed a sensational release on streaming platforms on July 28, 2026. This release saw the Demon Slayers being thrust into the Infinity Castle for their final confrontation to finally take down the King of Demons, Muzan, and his strongest underlings, once and for all.
In the first Infinity Castle movie, we saw three major battles unfold in style, and the biggest of them all was Akaza Vs. Tanjiro and Giyu. The other fight, although not as big, was Shinobu Vs Doma, and we can't forget about Zenitsu's confrontation against his former colleague, Kaigaku, now turned into the Upper Rank 6. With the final confrontation, we saw the official reveal of the first Breathing Style using Demon via Kaigaku's Thunder Breathing. Demon Breathing Style is unique, thanks to their Blood Demon Art. As the Infinity Castle story continues, we will see even more Demon Breathing Form users, far stronger than Kaigaku.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza's Return officially premiered in Japan in July 2025, and shortly after, we saw the global release of the movie. Finally, after a year of waiting, the movie is officially available on streaming services now, including Crunchyroll, starting July 28, 2026. By watching the movie at home, fans have finally noticed that this release showcases the very first occurrence of a Demon possessing the ability to use the power of Breathing Styles. This was previously thought to be a power unique to Demon Slayers. In Infinity Castle Part 1, we saw this new reveal through the return of Kaigaku, now turned into a Demon and given the Upper Rank 6 title. For context, Kaigaku was also a disciple of the former Thunder Hashira. He was trained alongside Zenitsu, and their relationship and battle were fully explored in Infinity Castle.
Due to both being trained under the Thunder Hashira, they learned his Breathing Style in their own way. While Zenitsu could, for most of the story, only use the first form of Thunder Breathing, named First Form: Thunderclap and Flash, Kaigaku could use all but the first form. In Infinity Castle, we got to see Kaigaku's Thunder Breathing form compared to Zenitsu's. Kaigaku's Breathing Style stands out. Due to his demonic powers, his lightning is highlighted in blue and black, and this is due to the utilization of Blood Demon Arts — a power granted to him through the blood of Muzan. With it, Kaigaku is able to make use of real Thunder and Lightning-based attacks. This was seen when Kaigaku’s attacks were able to actually crack and injure his opponent's flesh with lightning, something that never happens with Zenitsu’s usage of the Breathing Style.
It must be said that Kaigaku never reached his true potential since he fell in Infinity Castle Part 1. That is because he had only recently been turned into a Demon and had yet to master his true powers. While Kaigaku did eat some humans before his battle, he could have grown far stronger given more time. In that sense, while he was the new Upper Rank 6, his power wasn't comparable to that of the former Upper Rank 6, Daki and Gyutaro.
As previously mentioned, Kaigaku’s Thunder Breathing, used with the power of the Blood Demon Art, creates real thunder and lightning. That makes it very special and a power unique to Demons. As many fans might have already heard, the creator of Demon Slayer, Gotouge, previously revealed in Demon Slayer Volume 17 that Breathing Styles do not actually create real elemental abilities but only mimic some effects. In that sense, characters like Giyu, when using Water Breathing, do not create actual streams of water. They simply move their sword in a way that makes their opponent see water. The same can be said about any other kind of Breathing Style. Breathing Forms are uniquely visual for Demon Slayers; however, that doesn't apply to Demons.
