The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has given one of Bethesda's most well-known RPGs a new life, bringing the classic adventure to modern platforms with significantly upgraded visuals, except for in its latest update. To some surprise, the open-world RPG made its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 as well, giving players another way to explore Cyrodiil while taking advantage of the newer console's hardware. It has largely performed respectfully well on the platform.
For a game built around exploring a massive open world, the visual presentation of Oblivion Remastered is a pretty important part of the experience. Much of the appeal comes from simply traveling through Cyrodiil, whether that means walking through its cities, wandering through the wilderness, or stumbling across something unexpected along the way. Even in the new remaster, developers took care to retain the visual identity of the original, but the latest update has players encountering blurry visuals as if the Hero of Kvatch now needs glasses.
Bethesda recently released Update 1.1 for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered, which was a simple patch with a handful of bug fixes, but the patch appears to have caused some problems of its own. Players are reporting increased blurriness, ghosting, and reduced visual quality after installing the update, with some saying the game now looks significantly worse than it did before. There are plenty of complaints filed online, with Nintendo Everything also reaching out to Bethesda Support for a response. In short, Bethesda has acknowledged the ongoing reports:
"We are receiving reports that some players on Nintendo Switch 2 are experiencing increased image blurring, ghosting, and reduced visual quality in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered after installing Update 1.1. We are currently investigating this issue..."

The reported issues cover more than just a slightly softer image. Some Oblivion Remastered players have noticed ghosting and image trails when moving the camera or character, while others have reported reduced sharpness and detail. Visual flickering and instability have also been reported in certain scenes, with some players describing the post-update version as effectively unplayable. Bethesda has acknowledged the reports and confirmed that it is investigating the issue. According to an official support page, the company is aware of Nintendo Switch 2 players experiencing "increased image blurring, ghosting, and reduced visual quality," among other issues.
For now, players affected by the Oblivion Remastered problems will need to wait for a fix. It's possible, at least via some reports, to fix the issue by deleting the game and reinstalling it from a physical cartridge, although Bethesda warns this could impact saves on Oblivion Remastered. Overall, the situation is especially unfortunate for a patch that was supposed to improve the Nintendo Switch 2 version, leaving players waiting to see how quickly Bethesda can address the new visual problems introduced with Update 1.1.
Hopefully, however, Bethesda is as quick to fix this new bug in Oblivion Remastered. Sometimes bugs are more funny than harmful, but blurred visuals are not just bad for gaming, they're bad for the eyes. And for some folks, that's going to make it unplayable.
