You might not usually consider the GameCube when it comes to strategy games, but there were actually quite a few titles that made you do a bit more critical thinking than you'd expect from a console that wasn't typically known for this sort of thing.
Several series took off on the GameCube, while others just took a shot at a strategy game and moved on to greener pastures. Either way, there were some great games on the console that would have you thinking outside of the box.
We're going to check out a bunch of GameCube strategy games that kick off with a bang and don't let up.
Worms 3D is one of the most fun strategy games out there. It's super easy to get a grasp on and kind of functions as a "baby's first strategy game," but regardless of that, it's still a darn fun time that has some impressive features that you really don't see in other strategy titles. First off, it's turn-based, which can take a bit of getting used to, but it's necessary because it gives you the opportunity to consider all of your options.
And you have a ton of options. Weaponry, terrain, trajectory – it all comes into play when you're going to make a move in Worms 3D. And despite the way the game looks, don't be fooled; these little worm soldiers get blown to hell and back. But it's played more comically than tragically, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. It's one of the classics in the genre for a reason, and you'll get a ton of fun right from the start in this one.
Army Men: RTS is a great attempt at bringing the real-time strategy genre to the consoles, and while it lacks some of the scale that PC classics like StarCraft or Command and Conquer are capable of, it still works pretty well as an entry game into the genre and comes with plenty of charm that the series is known for. For example, the warzones are your everyday household environments.
