Have you ever wanted to fly in a jumbo jet emblazoned with the face of your favorite Pokémon? Well, your chance is coming with the launch of a new All Nippon Airways (ANA) plane next month.
The national Japanese carrier will officially usher into service a new Boeing 787-9, titled the “Green Pokémon Jet”, featuring decals of grass starter Pokémon from tip to tail (thanks Essential Japan). Well-known creatures such as Treecko, Chikorita, Grookey and Bulbasaur appear along both sides of the plane in playful scenes, with brand mascot Pikachu also featuring.
The themed plane will connect Japan to select North American hub cities (in both the U.S. and Canada) from September 2026 to March 2027 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the partnership between ANA and Pokémon. Eager plane watchers can follow its progress around the world using its tail number JA923A.
Coming after the earlier successful launches of the “Red Pokémon Jet” and “Blue Pokémon Jet”, featuring an array of fire and water-types respectively, the “Green Pokémon Jet” celebrates the final starter type available in the Pokémon games. You can see full images of the planes below.
The new plane design also pairs well with All Nippon Airways in-flight experience too, as they feature a Pokémon-themed safety video which debuts before each departure and instructs fans in key safeguard protocols. It features a range of Pokémon giving life-saving advice, such as Machamp showing how to properly fasten your seatbelt and Jigglypuff angrily scowling at a man for smoking on board. Mr. Mime does a good job showing oxygen mask procedures, too.
Passengers will also be treated to Pokémon-themed designs during food and beverage service too, with grass Pokémon decorating cocktail napkins and drinking cups. While stocks last, the plane will also be decorated with Pokémon-themed headrests. Background music from the game series will also be played throughout the plane during embarkation and disembarkation.
ANA are far from the first company to utilize the enduring popularity of Pikachu and pals to delight dedicated Pokémon fans while simultaneously filling their coffers. Even overseas in the US and Europe, major brands love hijacking the electric mouse’s image for their own ends.
Just recently, Krispy Kreme debuted a whole range of Pokémon-themed donuts in North America, each tailored to match the design of popular Pocket Monsters such as Charmander, Jigglypuff and Squirtle (but it’s unclear whether their taste also matched that of the Pokemon.) Dualshockers editor Ethan Kreiger ranked them all from worst to best, finding the variety of flavors interesting and crowning his unexpected winner.
