One of the most attractive features in The Blood of Dawnwalker is the freedom of choice, even when it comes to doing quests. There are no main or side quests; it's up to you to decide what to do, where to go, and even whether to save Coen's family or not. While this freedom is refreshing, it can also be overwhelming, as some players won't know which quest to tackle first. For that reason, I'll explain what to do after the prologue in The Blood of Dawnwalker, including the best quests to tackle early.
Before I dive into what to do first after the prologue, I'll first list the quests for people who don't want spoilers. These are the best quests to do after the prologue:
Start with the Firebrand Quest. It'll branch into the Under Watchful Eyes Quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker. At the end, Mert begs Coen to save Sara, starting the Shadows in the Woods Quest. Coen meets the Manumits and attempts to join them. Complete it to set Coen's goal for what to do next.
From the previous quests, Coen learns that to join the Manumits, he needs to raise his Infamy level to level four. You can raise it by opening Brencis's Court and targeting Ambrus's operations. Hunt down Ambrus's camps, outposts, blood transports, and everything under his authority. That will anger Ambrus and cause him to challenge Coen to a duel, starting the Gilded Gauntlet Quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
The Gilded Gauntlet is a big Quest that branches into another called the Bittersweet Toast Quest. If you progress in that Quest, you'll weaken Ambrus. Then, you can defeat him and complete the Gilded Gauntlet Quest. When you defeat Ambrus, your Infamy level will be around level three, but to join the Manumits, you need to be level four and reach the notorious milestone. To achieve that, keep attacking soldiers and their camps, targeting both Xanthe and Bakir operations.
By the time you defeat Ambrus, Coen will be strong enough to meet Anca and progress through the Echoes of Silenced Bells Quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker. It's another quest where Coen tries to gather more information about Brencis and how to defeat him.
These are the obvious quests that the game wants you to go after early. They should cover the first few hours after the prologue, but more importantly, they set the tone for what to do next. Keep in mind, you can completely ignore these quests and follow a different approach of your choosing, but following this chain of quests gives Coen a clear path to weaken Brencis, defeat him, and save his family.
