Roronoa Zoro is the Combatant of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of the most important characters in the overarching story of One Piece. Zoro is the first person to join Luffy's Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece chapter 6, which was officially released on September 1, 1997, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 14. Since then, Zoro has continued to play a tremendously important role in the story.
Over the 2-year timeskip, Zoro, just like every other member of the Straw Hat Pirates, gained tremendous strength, but in his case, this strength also came at the cost of his left eye, which, for mysterious reasons, remains shut to this day. In One Piece chapter 1194, released officially on September 27, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 44, Roronoa Zoro's left eye has been brought back as Eiichiro Oda gives us a new glimpse at his training with Dracule Mihawk.
One Piece chapter 1194 was tremendously significant for the character of Roronoa Zoro. Right now, the Elbaf arc is in its climax, where three major battles are currently unfolding. As we all know, the most important battle here is the one that features the main villain of the entire story, Nerona Imu, whose descent upon Elbaf came in One Piece chapter 1179 on April 5, 2026. There are two other important battles that hold tremendous weight as well, and they are Zoro Vs Sommers, and Sanji Vs Killingham. One Piece chapters 1193 and 1194 have focused almost exclusively on Zoro Vs Sommers. In this battle, Zoro was seen trying his utmost best to gain mastery over the Color of the Supreme King. To that end, Zoro had to think back to his time with Mihawk. In One Piece chapter 1194, released officially on September 27, 2026, in Shonen Jump Issue #44, as Zoro thought back to his time with Mihawk, fans finally got to see his left eye make a comeback in a brief flashback.

In this flashback, Zoro was seen training with Mihawk, and the legendary swordsman was seen explaining to him the importance of the Color of the Supreme King. According to Mihawk, if there's one thing that's unchanging in this world, it is that those born with a special disposition of a King always reign supreme at the top, and the weak crumble under them. This advice helped Zoro gain control over his own Color of the Supreme King, as seen in One Piece chapter 1194. At the same time, it also showed us that Zoro's left eye was closed permanently after this particular day of training with Mihawk, and that it will be of tremendous significance later down the line.

One Piece chapter 1194 gave us a look at Zoro's left eye after 16 years. The last time Zoro was seen with an open left eye was in the pre-time-skip of One Piece. In One Piece chapter 599, which was officially released on October 9, 2010, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 45, Roronoa Zoro made his first post-timeskip appearance in the story, and Oda unveiled his new design to us. In this new design, his left eye was scarred and closed permanently, and since then he has not opened it.
