Okay, hands up: who remembers Synduality: Echo of Ada?
This was an attempt by Bandai Namco to crack the ever-elusive live service space; a PvPvE extraction shooter featuring cutesy anime-styled characters and big mecha battles.
The game launched in 2025, but immediate reviews were lukewarm, and the player reception was similarly muted. It was one of those projects that just never really found a foothold, despite having some neat ideas.
It actually ended up on PS Plus Essential in December of that year, which is rarely a good sign when it comes to the health of an online-focused outing.
Anyway, Synduality's being taken offline as of May 2027. Content updates will cease beyond next month.
However, I have to give props to Bandai Namco here, because the publisher isn't just scrapping the title entirely — as has been the case with so many live service busts over the years.
Instead, it's working on an update that'll transform Synduality into an offline game. It'll still retain its gameplay structure as an extraction shooter, but you obviously won't be duking it out with other players online.
The update will be free for everyone who already owns the game, and more information on how it all works will be shared in the near future.
