There are roughly 15-16 months left until Sony kills off physical PlayStation games, so it's always a fun story when news of a disc-based success rolls around for the company.
During its first week on the market, Marvel's Wolverine recorded PlayStation's biggest physical sales launch in the UK in 2026. Taking into account every other release and console, Marvel's Wolverine had the third-biggest release in terms of boxed purchases of the year so far. Only Resident Evil Requiem and 007 First Light bettered it.
Comparing it to other PlayStation Studios efforts, data from Chris Dring of The Game Business revealed Marvel's Wolverine launch in the UK was three times bigger than Death Stranding 2. However, it's a 60% drop compared to Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and "marginally lower" than what Ghost of Yotei managed.

Since the comparison covers PlayStation Studios releases in the UK for 2026, we know Marvel's Wolverine has gotten off to a better start than Saros and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. That was expected to happen, though, because of the IP and the character. Analytic predictions have pointed to the game having sold 1.9 million copies worldwide so far, but the source hasn't always proven reliable.
Of course, Sony shows no signs of reversing its decision to stop physical PlayStation game production from January 2028 onwards. Fan protests have come and gone, and there's been no official word on any change of heart from Sony.
